ClancyWorks Dance Company is back again hosting an exciting event for the Wheaton Community, which includes free food, dance, and fun.

Description:

Looking for a fun afternoon with delicious free food and dance? Join us at the Wheaton Recreation Center from 2:00pm-4:00pm on October 18 for a joyful, family-friendly event with ClancyWorks Dance Company and other artists from the community.

Everyone will have the opportunity to dance, watch dance performances, and participate in a dialogue with performers from the Greater Washington DC area.

Carla Perlo & Dancers will start off the event with formal introductions and present Balloons with her dancers.

Following, we’ll be presenting Sylvia Soumah and Coyaba Dance Theater. The company performs traditional and contemporary West African dance and music focusing on the diverse ethnic groups and various humanitarian themes of West African culture. For our community event, Sylvia, Coyaba’s founder and Artistic Director, will be premiering a new choreographic work featuring six drummers and six dancers.

Denmi Whiteman is an Oglala Lakota/Southern Cheyenne model, content creator, and Jingle Dress dancer. Through fashion, movement, and media, she celebrates Indigenous identity and resilience—blending cultural tradition with modern expression to inspire, heal, and empower.

Then to close out the afternoon, Carla and Dancers will entertain us with Letters/Murals – Scarves & Line Dances — Letters/Words that “contemplate what makes a community?”

Looking for a way to advertise yourself and what you do? Bring your flyers and leave them with us at the check in table for everyone to see!

Participants will have the exciting opportunity to win prizes through our raffle, which will feature a variety of rewards such as gift cards, beaded jewelry, and books. Don’t miss your chance to be a lucky winner!
